First Translation Ever [Dutch] of "A Bear Called Paddington" by Michael Bond - 1959
"Een beer die Paddington heette," the very first translation of A Bear Called Paddington by Michael Bond, was published in the Netherlands less than a year after the original 1958 release. This edition was translated by Dutch poet and journalist Han G. Hoekstra and published by Ploegsma, Amsterdam, with the original illustrations by Peggy Fortnum. The print run is unknown but believed to be very small, making this an extremely rare book. As far as we know, this is the first copy offered for sale in many years.
The book does not come with a dust jacket. It is in near-fine condition with only minor shelf wear and slightly bumped spine ends. The binding is firm. There is a small stain on the first endpaper and a few small stains on the half-title and title pages. Otherwise, the pages are clean and bright, without dog-eared corners, inscribed names, or other defects. This is a highly collectible copy of a very scarce edition.
