First American edition, First Printing of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. This rare association copy of J.K. Rowling’s debut novel was signed in October 1998, the month of its U.S. publication. Rowling signed the book on the verso of the half-title page for Jim Aylesworth (b. 1943), a respected American children’s author with over 30 published works.
The signing of this copy was arranged by Scholastic, the publisher for both Rowling and Aylesworth. Association copies like this—signed and exchanged within literary circles—carry special significance for collectors. Aylesworth’s distinguished career in children’s literature further enhances the importance of this copy, highlighting a connection between two celebrated authors.
Notably, 1998 also marked the first time Scholastic published a book by Jim Aylesworth. Added is a first edition of The Gingerbread Man, signed and doodled by the author Jim Aylesworth in the year of publication, also published by Scholastic in 1998.
