Proof dust jacket of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Very scarce proof dust jacket of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. The number of these proof dust jackets that have been preserved is estimated to be fewer than 10, mostly with signs of use. The proof jacket we offer is in exceptionally beautiful condition. The only notable point on the jacket is a very inconspicuous vertical fold on the back flap. Otherwise in pristine condition, without any fading or damage. The inside of the jacket is also like new.
The proof of the dust jacket of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets differs from the later published version in several ways: a thicker lamination was used, the price listed on the front flap is £9.99 compared to the final version's £10.99, the blue 'Smarties Award' circle printed on the jacket is missing, the quote on the front cover is attributed to Nicolette Jones of the Sunday Times, while on the final version, it is attributed to 'The Bookseller'. The text on the back of the dust jacket is printed in a larger font size, and the outline of the ISBN frame is missing. Lastly, the name of the illustrator Cliff Wright is mistakenly spelled as 'Cliffe Wright'. On the right side of the jacket, there is a white strip containing a number of bibliographic specifications of the book.
This copy was previously part of the Pat McInally Collection of Children’s Literature. McInally is a distinguished former American football player and famous children's book collector, known for his high collecting standards and this copy is no exception to the rule.
