First Dutch Translation. First Printing, 1960. Translation by Max Schuchart. This is the third translation of The Hobbit, following the Swedish (1947) and German (1957) editions. The translation is based on the seventh printing of The Hobbit, published by Allen & Unwin in 1955.
The book includes the two maps by Tolkien: “Thrors kaart” (Thror's Map) on pp. [6-7] and “Wilderland” on pp. [8-9], with calligraphed place names translated into Dutch. See Hammond, Section G, Page 391.
A VG+++ / Near Fine copy of this fragile book, with minor wear to the cover and spine edges. A chip of approximately 1 cm is missing from the bottom of the spine, and a name and date are written on the title page; otherwise, there are no inscriptions or flaws. The binding is still quite firm, and the pages are browned with age, as usual. A well-preserved and highly collectible copy.
