The Lord of the Rings 2-1-1 set [1954-1955] - Full leather bound in Tolkien’s “Oxford Bodleian library style”
Marvelous set Lord of the Rings, consisting of a first edition, second impression of The Fellowship of the Ring [1954] and first editions, first impressions of The Two Towers [1954] and Return of the King [1955]. This truly unique full leather bound set is masterfully crafted in Tolkien's "Oxford Bodleian library style" by a multiple winner of the SOB International bookbinders "Historic Binding" competition. This beautiful set really exudes the atmosphere of the place where Tolkien spent an important part of his life. Gilt titles and line tooling to the spine and panels. Each (front and back) panel bears Tolkien’s embossed logo.
The first two volumes have a few brown spots, otherwise the books look like new with clean pages without inscriptions. Folding map in red and black at rear of each volume. Return of the King is the second state of the first printing, with "4" at the bottom of page 49, along with some dropped letters.
